A Trump Takeover of DC Would End the Democrats’ Dirty District

A decade ago, there was a large unused government building on Pennsylvania Avenue NW. Donald Trump took control of it, and made the old post office a luxury hotel which was later sold to the Waldorf Astoria. Imagine what the Donald could do for the entire District if he was in charge.
Regrettably, the District has been a safe place for democrats to do long-term testing on progressive policies and conduct dirty business for decades, and a Trump takeover could make progress on some senseless murders of politically-connected victims: Seth Rich, Mike Gill, and Mary Caitrin Mahoney.
If DC home rule was lost and the executive functions were conducted by an appointed Trump administrator, the lives of DC residents would benefit through the reduction of openly corrupt practices from DC’s legislative, judicial, and executive branches. Let’s review was would be eliminated:
DC’s glaring disregard for the law with DC councilmembers
The DC Home Rule Act states that:
“In the case of the first election held for the office of member of the Council after January 2, 1975, not more than 2 of the at-large members (excluding the Chairman) shall be nominated by the same political party.”
Today, and for the past few decades, Democrats have run as Independents to get on the DC council. The issue is: Independent is NOT a political party that is required by the DC Home rule act. Just consider one of the current ‘independent’ councilmembers: Kenyan McDuffie was a Ward 5 Democrat prior to his election as a ‘independent’ at-large councilmember.
Another serious issue with a councilmember who is allowed to legislate is Trayon White. At the time of this article, he still owes about $57,730 to the Office of Campaign Finance for spending taxpayer money on his mayoral campaign and not providing receipts nor complying with other regulations. DC is a unique place that gives taxpayer money (5 to 1 match) to candidates in order to fight corporate influence, and it’s it’s impact may only be to increase the amount of slush to give to candidate’s friends.
Judicial Issues
Home Rule may stick around with another Trump presidency, but the district would receive a new US Attorney general, which would be a huge improvement over Matthew Graves. Graves likes to give plea deals to violent criminals. See his poor performance analyzed on DC Crime Facts.
Executive Privileges
Muriel Bowser has occasionally vetoed a big budget or a liberal crime bill, but her continued support for the poverty-entrenching housing and entitlement policies have continued to tether a large fraction of Washingtonians. With the status quo of subsidized housing and housing production policies, neighborhoods like mine in South East DC can never eliminate the problem neighbors who are staying in their Section 8 or ‘affordable’ housing units, enriching the slum lords and implanting high-risk individuals who are capable of paying market rent.
Beyond her support for typical socialized housing, Bowser has mayoral offices that support special interests, including funding annual gay-pride parades with taxpayer dollars. I don’t care what Bowser’s sexuality is, i don’t believe the District should be publicly celebrating sexual perversion and the trans agenda.
Recently, the District has a safe haven for terrorists to take down the American Flag and replace with the Palestinian flag at Union Station. This protest against the Israeli Prime Minister’s visit should have been a known issue for MPD (serving under the Mayor’s authority), but the protesters were allowed to remove America’s flags and burn one. During this Mayor’s New Years Day run, thousands of runners were exposed to scores of “Free Gaza” posters during their 5k run, and had to step around protesters laying in fake blood around the finish line. I didn’t know the first amendment allowed people to interfere with 5Ks.
The elimination of these local governance excesses and special interests should save the DC taxpayer money by reducing the 22 billion+ budget. Also, the residents should appreciate that when Trump was in office, DC became the District of Champions: a national championship for our baseball, hockey, and event women’s basketball teams. No such performances under the Democrat presidents. The White House also hosted epic afterparties.
Come quickly, Trump, come quickly.
