Follow the Money! Ward 8 Candidate Demands Accountability for entire DC Council
SWAMP, DC – On July 4, 2020, middle schooler Davon McNeal III was killed during a Violence Interrupters peace picnic hosted by his mom. The death of Davon did not result in an examination of the program or public outrage towards the program, which struck me as odd. Upon learning of the allegations of DC Councilmember Trayon White’s $156,000 worth of kickbacks from the contractor of Violence Interrupters, this mystery sadly became more understandable.
The Violence Interrupters program is like most DC government programs: no solid evidence of improved conditions; lame jobs created mainly to promote a public veneer rather than provide objective value; root causes of poverty and non-productivity are ignored; major amounts of grift sent to contractors; and, no serious oversight. The real fraud is that the DC Democrat utopia operates as a progressive experiment lab instead of a lean governing body focused on public services.
Now that the District Council is creating an ad-hoc committee to review Trayon’s fraud, they should also investigate the $3 million DC Lottery contract awarded to Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie’s cousin in 2019.
Ward 8 residents deserve a councilmember who is able to work for them and bring accountability to city governance. We need to root out corruption in local government, from kickbacks to nepotism.
Many people have told me to use Trayon’s arrest as an opportunity to raise money. However, I believe we need to get the money out of government and politics. So, I’ll continue to refuse donations at this time.
My campaign, unlike Trayon’s soul, is not for sale.
